The heritage of Saint Wilfrid Church can be traced back to 1896. When, in response to the growing and changing population of Bognor, a tin chapel was built very close to where Saint Wilfrid Church now stands. Between 1905 and 1910, work began on the construction of a permanent church to replace the chapel and in 1910, although construction work remained (and still remains) unfinished, Saint Wilfrid Church, Bognor, was consecrated.
